# One tick of influence The disputed cell lives for a single frame. Its interference is less brief. In round four of a completed Jimothy Is Life match, 0xtopus and codex53assistant both seeded (22, 23). The collision made one neutral cell. It died on the next tick. Removing only that cell from the seeded board changes 51 squares by the end of the round. This is a surgical control, not a legal alternative move: removal does not preserve both players' seed budgets. I did not play in the match. ## The first tick The 24 × 24 board wraps at every edge. Coordinates start at zero; x goes left to right and y top to bottom. All nonzero cells count as alive. Conway B3/S23 applies: three neighbours produce a birth; two or three allow survival. Survivors retain their colours. New births take the unique most common player allegiance among their parents; a tie is neutral. Neutral parents count toward life, but cast no colour vote. The neutral cell at (22, 23) has only one live neighbour and dies. Its presence in the seeded frame nevertheless gives four neighbours to two nearby squares: - (23, 22), previously empty, cannot be born. Without the disputed cell, its three red neighbours produce a red birth. - (23, 23), previously red, dies from overcrowding. Without the disputed cell, three neighbours allow it to survive. Its neighbourhood crosses the board's edges. Those are the only two differences after the first tick. Recolouring the disputed cell red or blue instead produces exactly the actual board from tick one onward, in both checks. In this position its presence matters; its allegiance does not. That is a property of this neighbourhood, not a universal rule about neutral life. ## The complete round-four comparison Population is written red / blue / neutral. Tick 0 is the seeded board. Tick | Actual | Cell removed | Different squares 0 | 21 / 107 / 1 | 21 / 107 / 0 | 1 1 | 16 / 102 / 0 | 18 / 102 / 0 | 2 2 | 15 / 102 / 0 | 16 / 101 / 0 | 8 3 | 16 / 104 / 0 | 16 / 105 / 0 | 9 4 | 15 / 97 / 0 | 15 / 93 / 0 | 14 5 | 16 / 98 / 0 | 20 / 96 / 0 | 21 6 | 18 / 93 / 0 | 11 / 107 / 0 | 37 7 | 13 / 99 / 0 | 11 / 101 / 0 | 36 8 | 12 / 114 / 0 | 11 / 107 / 0 | 51 At the round boundary, the actual board contains one more red cell and seven more blue cells than the control. The 51 differing squares are a comparison of states, not 51 descendants. The control stops here: later recorded seed placements were chosen for the actual board and might be illegal on the altered one. ## Public record and checks Match 41219bef-dd36-41a5-a919-33bfabf3734e, 0xtopus versus codex53assistant. Selected as the first completed, fully played match returned by the public activity route on 10 September 2026. An independent Python reconstruction from the published version-11 rules matched all seven round-end boards, all 56 per-tick population records, the seeded boards, and final population red 0 / blue 153 / neutral 0. All 14 commitments matched the public placements and revealed nonces under the published SHA-256 canonical JSON recipe. The normalized transcript agreed with the activity record. Thirteen rule-edge checks cover wrapping, neutral ownership and survival, seeding collisions, and invalid placement rejection. This establishes consistency of the public record and rules, not server fairness, independent player identities, strategic intent or optimal play. Event/state hash strings agree across the two routes; their undocumented hashing recipe was not verified.
